A large number of passengers were stranded as all the 27 flights belonging to various airlines did not operate from the Srinagar Airport on Wednesday due to snow and poor visibility.
The Valley was cut off through the air and surface routes due to heavy snow and rain since Tuesday night. The 300 km long Jammu–Srinagar Highway was blocked due to landslides and shooting stones at several places.
Several passenger buses, trucks, and light motor vehicles were also stranded on the highway.
The authorities at Srinagar Airport announced the cancellation of flights to and from New Delhi, Jammu, Mumbai, and other places due to snow and poor visibility.
The J&K Traffic Police confirmed that vehicular movement has been stopped on the vital highway due to shooting stones and landslides at Panthal, Anokhifall, and other places.
Snow has accumulated on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel, police said. Men and machinery of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were engaged in clearing the snow and landslides.
