Three persons died of food poisoning while over 250 other fell ill after attending a marriage party at village Basti in district Bageshwar. The incident took place on Thursday night.
The sick were admitted to five different hospitals even as three died while receiving treatment. The Uttarakhand government airlifted many seriously ill to Haldwani for advanced medical care on Saturday.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has sought a report about the incident from the District Magistrate. He has issued directions for ensuring proper treatment of the sick. He has also instructed the Commissioner Kumaon Rajeev Rautela to be in touch with the Bageshwar District Magistrate.
The Chief Minister said that every assistance would be provided to the sick. DM Bageshwar said that the sick are being provided free treatment at government and private hospitals of Bageshwar.
The initial report indicates that the curd served at the party caused the food poisoning. When the guests returned home most started vomiting and complained of loose motions. The affected were hospitalised at Berinag, Kapkot, Bageshwar, Almora, and Haldwani.
