In a bid to make Delhi drug-free in 3 yrs, month-long drive from Dec 1
Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena has announced a one-month anti-drug campaign, starting from 1st December, in a bid to combat the menace of drug abuse in the national capital.
Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain on Wednesday said that latest satellite images showed large-scale crop residue being burnt in parts of northern India.
The minister pointed out that with the onset of winter, the air quality in parts of northern India, including Delhi, has became a serious concern, as evident according to the National AQI.
“It is high time the crop residue burning in fields is immediately halted, failing which a serious health hazard awaits entire northern India,” the minister added.

He wondered that it was beyond any reasonable understanding why the menace was being ignored despite a well-known fact that its consequences would be disastrous in the coming days.
“Due to induced cyclonic circulation over north Rajasthan and its neighbourhood, the wind direction over Delhi is likely to be variable with wind speed 5- 10 kmph and a partly cloudy sky,” he said.
