McDonald’s, one of the world’s biggest fast food joints, has introduced whole wheat buns for its range of burgers.
From the popular Filet-o-Fish Burger to vegetarian favourite McAloo Tikki Burger, all items will now be available with the option of whole wheat buns. Whole wheat buns are also available with the products on the breakfast menu.
Speaking about the launch, Amit Jatia, vice-chairman of Westlife Development Limited that owns McDonald’s restaurants, said, “McDonald’s in India has been setting the standards for the industry. We announced ‘The Good Food Story’ earlier this year with a commitment to bring wholesome and nutritious food options to our consumers.”
He added, “I am delighted that we have made another significant and bold move in this direction by offering Whole Wheat buns to our health-conscious customers. Our latest offering is a rich source of fibre and other nutrients…we will continue to take substantial steps to delight our consumers with nutritive and wholesome offerings.”
McDonald’s in West and South India claims to have made alterations in the menu, bringing down the sodium and oil content in its products by 20% and 40%, respectively. “Almost all the patties are preservative free, and the soft serves are 96% fat-free and are made of 100% milk,” the company said in a statement, adding that the refined flour wraps had been replaced with whole grain wraps.
