World Number 3 badminton player PV Sindhu has come out in support of the #MeToo movement. She lauded people from different spheres coming forward in exposing personalities who sought sexual favours from their colleagues.

Many Bollywood stars have been named and shamed since Tanushree Dutta alleged in a recent interview how veteran actor Nana Patekar had harassed her in 2008. Earlier this week, famous writer-producer Vinta Nanda accused Alok Nath of rape.

Journalist-turned-politician MJ Akbar has been named too. Multiple women journalists have accused Akbar, a junior foreign minister in the NDA government now, of sexual misconduct.

“I appreciate that people have come forward and spoken about it. I respect it,” PV Sindhu said, while talking about the #MeToo movement on the sidelines of an event where telecom company Vodafone launched a woman-specific service ‘Sakhi’.

When the 23-year-old Olympic silver medalist was asked if she was aware of any such incident in sports, Sindhu replied, “I don’t know about seniors and coaches. As far as I am concerned, I have been on the sports circuit for years and it has been good and fine with me.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Sindhu’s former badminton colleague Jwala Gutta accused an unnamed BAI official of mental harassment.
