Social media in charge of the Congress party Divya Spandana, also known as Ramya, on Wednesday rubbished reports about her quitting the Congress’ social media team.

Dismissing some media reports as rumour, she said she had no clue about why such reports were surfacing on the social media.

Earlier in the day, various media reports suggested that Spandana, who has not been attending the office for the last last three days, had either resigned from her post or she has been sacked by the party leadership.

Rumours about her resignation began to shape up following the change in Spandana’s Twitter bio. Her Twitter bio was changed to remove any mention of her association with the Congress party. However, she later clarified that it happened because of a Twitter bug.

Talking about her reported three-day absence from office, Spandana said she had taken leave and that she would rejoin the office on Thursday.

This has come only a few days after the Lucknow police filed a case against Spandana under the sedition law for calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “thief” in a tweet.

Spandana was booked for posting an “insulting” tweet against PM Modi, and the case was registered at the Gomtinagar police station in Lucknow.

“An FIR was registered against Divya Spandana under the Information Technology Act and relevant sections of the IPC,” Gomtinagar SHO DP Tiwari had said.

The FIR was lodged on a complaint by lawyer Syed Rizwan Ahmed, who alleged that Spandana tweeted an “utterly insulting” post against the prime minister.

A case under Section 124-A of the Indian Penal Code (sedition) and Section 67 of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act was registered against Spandana.

In his FIR, a copy of which he posted on Twitter, Ahmed accused Spandana of damaging the image of the nation on the international stage with her tweet against the PM.

Spandana had on 24 September posted a tweet containing a morphed picture showing PM Modi writing the word “chor” on the forehead of a statue of him.

Her tweet was in line with the Congress party president Rahul Gandhi’s Tuesday remarks that the PM was a “thief”.
