It has been over three days since a 19-year-old alleged gang rape in Haryana’s Mahendragarh district, but no arrest has been made yet.

Nuh Superintendent of Police Nazneen Bhasin told the media that the medical examination of the victim had confirmed rape. She added that multiple teams had been formed to catch the men accused of rape.

“We’ve made multiple teams to nab the accused. I appeal to the people to give us any information they’ve regarding the case and have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for those who help us in cracking the case,” Bhasin said.

A serving defence personnel reportedly stationed in Rajasthan was the main accused in the Rewari gangrape case, police said.

The state police have set up a special investigation team (SIT), to be headed Bhasin, to probe the incident.

Mahendergarh Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said raids were being conducted in Rewari and Mahendergarh districts and neighbouring areas.

According to media reports, the girl was abducted by three men, but she was raped by more than 10 men once she was taken to a secluded place on Wednesday near Kanina village.

The victim, who has identified her attackers, and her parents had said earlier the police were not taking action in the matter and were dealing with it casually.

The accused, who belong to the same village as the victim, allegedly kidnapped the victim from Kanina bus stand while she was on her way for coaching classes.

The victim alleged that they gave her water to drink which was laced with sedative. They then took turns raping her in a room adjoining agricultural fields till she fell unconscious.

They later dumped her at a bus stop near the village.

The mother hit out at the police for allegedly failing to take action in the case and said her daughter was traumatised even as the accused “were roaming freely” after the incident.

“The government talks about Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, but is this the price we have to pay for getting our daughters educated? The accused are roaming freely but police has failed to nab them,” the 19-yer-old’s mother told reporters in her village in Rewari district.

The incident evoked sharp reaction from the opposition, with former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda alleging a complete breakdown of the law and order situation.

He demanded resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on moral grounds for the state’s alleged failure to protect its daughters.
