Virat Kohli does not need us, we need him: Bumrah
Bumrah, however, stressed that Kohli knows his cricket better than anyone else and that his experience of batting in these challenging conditions was essential from the team’s perspective.
Here is a list of other records that were created on Day 2 of the fifth Test.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli completed 18,000 runs in international cricket on the second day of the final Test match between India and England at the Kia Oval in London.
Kohli took 382 innings to achieve the feat – the least by any batsman – and is the only cricketer to score that many international runs in less than 400 innings.
At the end of the second day’s game, England were on the top in the ongoing fifth Test match of five-match series.

India’s batting woes continued as they were left reeling at 174/6 in reply to England’s 332 in the first innings, at stumps on Day 2. Resuming the overnight score of 198/7, Jos Buttler (89) and his 98-run ninth-wicket partnership with Stuart Broad (38) helped England post 332 despite a middle-order collapse on Day 1.
1- KL Rahul has so far taken 13 catches in the ongoing series – most by a fielder in a series in England.
2- Rahul’s catches so far in this series is the joint highest taken by an Indian fielder in any series. Rahul Dravid had taken 13 catches against Australia in 2004.
3- Former England skipper Alastair Cook on Saturday took his 38th catch against India, which is the second highest after Sir Viv Richards.
4- In the ongoing Test series, Indian pacers have taken 59 wickets so far – the most by any set of Indian pace bowlers. The previous record was held by Kapil Dev and company against Pakistan in 1979-80.
5- Star England pacer James Anderson has taken 107 wickets against India – most by any bowler against the sub-continental cricketing giant. Anderson went past the tally of Muttiah Muralitharan (105 wickets) when he dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara on Saturday.
In reply, India’s top order showed no signs of improvement against quality swing bowling with opener Shikhar Dhawan (3) falling early.
KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara made identical 37 to join hands for a 64-run second wicket stand before Sam Curran (1/46) bowled a beauty to dismiss Rahul.
Rahul looked good throughout his stay but Curran made light of his defence with an unplayable delivery that swung back in the air after pitching on the middle and off stump.
India then lost three wickets for 33 runs as Anderson wreaked havoc with the moving ball, removing both Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane (0) in quick succession.
Kohli (49) looked in great touch like he has been throughout the series. He hit six boundaries during his 70-ball knock before edging a Stokes delivery to his counterpart Joe Root at the slip cordon.
