Amid reports that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) plans to invite Congress president Rahul Gandhi to attend a three-day lecture series, the party said it would respond only after receiving the RSS invite.

“I do not answer hypothetical speculative questions. I have said to you categorically upon checking that we have received no invitation,” said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

“You can be rest assured, as and when the Congress receives an invitation, there will be an appropriate proper response and you all will be shared with that response,” he added.

The RSS criticised Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday for drawing parallels between the RSS and Islamic State (IS) and the Muslim Brotherhood.

At the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London on August 24, Gandhi had said the RSS’ idea was similar to that of Muslim Brotherhood in the Arab world. He had also accused the RSS of trying to “change” the nature of India and “capture” its institutions.

In its response, the Sangh said Rahul Gandhi could not understand RSS as he “does not know India”.

Referring to the Congress president’s old statement that he was trying to understand India, RSS prachar pramukh (publicity in-charge) Arun Kumar said Monday, “One who doesn’t understand India cannot understand the Sangh.”

The Sangh reportedly now plans to invite him for the three-day lecture series by Mohan Bhagwat planned next month to enlighten people about the organisation.

The RSS is learnt to be organising the lecture series on the theme, ‘Future of Bharat: An RSS perspective’. The event will be held at Vigyan Bhavan from September 17-19.

“Bhagwatji will address and interact with select audience comprising prominent citizens on ‘Future of Bharat: An RSS perspective’ in a three-day lecture series,” Kumar told reporters on Monday.

Stating that people across the country wanted to know about the RSS, he added: “This lecture series has been organised in this context… sarsanghchalak (RSS chief) Mohan Bhagwatji will present the Sangh views on various contemporary issues of national importance.”

While the list is not final yet, a PTI report said it might also include CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. According to reports, Bhagwat will take a final call on this.
