SP chief lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party for “misleading the people” by claiming that the road project was conceptualised by the present regime in UP
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday slammed the Yogi Adityanath government for taking credit for the Purvanchal Expressway.
Addressing a press conference prior to the laying of the foundation stone by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Azamgarh, the SP chief lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party for “misleading the people” by claiming that the road project was conceptualised by the present regime in Uttar Pradesh.
He accused the BJP of indulging in false propaganda. He said the BJP had nothing of its own to showcase by way of the work done by it. The party is too busy laying the foundation stone and inaugurating projects which were conceived and partially implemented by the SP, he said.

The SP president said the project had been conceived as the Samajwadi Seemanchal Expressway. “It was a six-lane project expandable to eight lanes. The intent was to lessen the journey time. Once completed, the time duration from Azamgarh to Lucknow would be covered in a time span of just two-and-half hours,” Akhilesh said.
Akhilesh took a veiled swipe at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for excluding prime minister’s constituency Varanasi, CM’s constituency Gorakhpur and Ayodhya from the Purvanchal Expressway.
He said the alignment and other specifications had been done under the SP regime. Akhilesh stressed that the Samajwadi government had done exemplary work in creating infrastructure in the state.
