When Burman was nine-year-old, he composed his first song, Aye meri topi palat ke aa, which his father SD Burman used in the film Funtoosh (1956)!
Burman’s first released film as an independent music director was Chote Nawab, when the noted Bollywood comedian and actor Mehmood decided to produce the film. The film marked a turning point for Burman’s career.
Burman met his first wife Rita Patel in Darjeeling. Rita, a fan, had a bet with her friends that she would be able to get film-date with Burman. The two married in 1966 and divorced in 1971.
One of Burman’s most popular songs Meri Nazar Hain Tujh Pe from the film The Burning Train was used in the advertisement of Apple iPhone X in early 2018.
Although Burman laid the foundation for numerous Bollywood music directors to pave the path for the future of music in the industry, the legendary music director received only three Filmfare awards throughout his career.
