Controversy surrounds WBMC registrar appointment
A controversy has erupted around the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) over the appointment procedure for its new registrar.
The victim, a migrant labourer, was on his way to Kaliachak in Malda district from Howrah on May 14, when the four persons got into the train and sat next to his seat.
In another case of intolerance, a man was allegedly assaulted by four unidentified persons in a moving train in West Bengal, after he failed to reply to their queries on the Prime Minister and the national anthem.
The victim, a migrant labourer, was on his way to Kaliachak in Malda district from Howrah on May 14, when the four persons got into the train and sat next to his seat after he had briefly deboarded at a station, a police officer said.

Upon his arrival, they suddenly started asking him questions about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the national anthem and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he said, adding, the man was roughed up when he could not reply to the queries.

The group later alighted at Bandel station.
An NGO – Bangla Sankriti Mancha – lodged an FIR on Thursday against the accused, based on videos taken by co-passengers, Kaliachak Police Station Inspector-in-Charge Suman Chatterjee said.
An investigation into the matter is underway, Chatterjee said.
This is not the first time that violence has been reported in a train. In June 2017, 17-year-old Junaid was lynched his and cousin brothers Hasim Moin and Shakir Moin were thrashed on board the EMU train going from Ghaziabad to Mathura.
The incident occurred on June 22, when Junaid and his cousins were returning from Delhi after their Eid shopping, the accused along with around a dozen others, boarded the train at Okhla and ordered Junaid and his brothers to give them their seats.
An argument ensued between the group, when they refused to give their seats, the mob brutally assaulted the trio and stabbed Junaid.
His body was dumped at Asaoti railway station in Palwal district.
