India and China have discussed ways to step up security and law enforcement cooperation between them even as analysts suggested that China’s decision to undertake large-scale mining operations close to the border in Arunachal Pradesh might become another flashpoint between the two nations.
Deputy National Security Advisor Rajinder Khanna, who was in Beijing to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting of National Security Council Secretaries, had a bilateral meeting with Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi on Monday evening.
Official sources said the meeting was cordial with the two sides sharing their views on the situation in the region and how they could cooperate with each other in tackling security issues.

On his part, Zhao said China would work with India to strengthen high-level mutual visits, improve cooperation mechanisms, enhance anti-terror cooperation and promote healthy and stable development of bilateral ties.
Khanna assured the Chinese side of India’s readiness to work with Beijing to implement the consensus reached between the leaderships of the two nations to enhance cooperation on law enforcement security.
The meeting came within weeks of Prime Minister Narendra Modi holding an informal summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Wuhan. Modi is scheduled to meet Li again on the margins of the SCO Summit to be held in China in June.
