Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Digvijay Singh ended his over six-month-long Narmada Parikrama on Monday at Barman Ghat in Narsinghpur district with a grand ceremony in the presence of his spiritual guru Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand.
BJP MP and former Union minister Prahlad Patel and his younger brother and Madhya Pradesh minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet, Jalam Singh, also attended the programme. They are MP and MLA respectively from this area.

Addressing his supporters who had come from across the state, Digvijay Singh said when he was chief minister he stayed at a rest house in Mandala district on the banks of the Man Narmada 20 years ago, he had wanted to go on Narmada Parikrama.

“My spiritual guru, Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand was motivated and blessed me to make this arduous exercise, I thank all who supported and walked with me during the yatra,” Singh said.

Congress state incharge Deepak Babaria, state Congress president Arun Yadav, MPs Kantilal Bhuria and Vivek Tankha, MLA Rajnish Singh and film star Ashutosh Rana also addressed the gathering.
MLAs from Gwalior region, Jaivardhan Singh, Govind Singh, K P Singh and several Congress workers along with state vice-president Ashok Singh attended the programme.
The 3,200 km, 192-day-long ‘Parikrama’ began on 30 September last year from the same place. It passed through Maharashtra and Gujarat apart from traversing through Madhya Pradesh.
The absence of Jyotiraditya Scindia supporters at the event was conspicuous indicating that factionalism in the Madhya Pradesh Congress continues.
