South Eastern Railway pressed into service a new local train with inbuilt GPS system and closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the ladies compartment from Howrah station on Thursday.
The decision to introduce the new indigenous local train with CCTV cameras in the ladies compartment was taken to ensure safety of women passengers.
Flasher light indication unit with buzzer has been provided outside ladies compartment and disabled passengers’ coach.
In case of passenger alarm chain pull (ACP), this unit will start glowing with a buzzer sound and information will be available to both the motorman and the guard.
For better ventilation inside coach, roof mounted ventilation unit have been provided in each coach along with 450mm sweep fan.
The full rake is equipped with LED light in order to save energy. GPS based passenger information system with in-coach display unit, in-coach speaker and LED based head code have also been provided.
This system announces as well as displays the present station, next station and various safety messages.
The rake is fitted with easy to slide, light weight sliding doors supported by imported sliding mechanism, including user friendly locks, latches and maintenance-free rollers.
South Eastern Railway will press into service another new rake on Friday, while four others will be inducted within the next two months.
