On the occasion of ‘World Water Day’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called upon the citizens of the country to conserve water to help benefit cities, villages and farmers.
In a tweet, Modi said: “WorldWaterDay is an occasion to highlight the importance of Jal Shakti and reaffirm our commitment towards water conservation.”
“When water is conserved, our cities, villages and hardworking farmers benefit tremendously,” he said.

World Water Day is observed every year on March 22 to focus attention on the importance of water and the need to preserve it.
The United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day, and this year it’s the 25th World Water Day.
The theme for World Water Day 2018 is ‘Nature for Water’ – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.
Damaged ecosystems affect the quantity and quality of water available for human consumption. Today, 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home; affecting their health, education and livelihoods.
