The Oscars 2018 had an Indian connection, we now know. Indian-born Vikas Sathaye, a software engineer in Adelaide, was awarded with an Oscar plaque at the 90th Academy awards for helping develop an aerial mount used in some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster of 2017.
Back in 2009, Vikas, 50, alongside his team of three colleagues developed a steadycam helicopter mount that was highly appreciated for its ground breaking features and even grabbed the eyeballs of the crew of Walking with the Dinosaurs, who requested for a prototype.
Vikas, who has helped huge Hollywood blockbuster like Dunkirk and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 with his innovation, says it was a joyous moment for his family when he accepted the award on stage.

“My wife (Ashwini) was inspired and said she wanted to do something similar to her father — that was really very joyful for my wife and myself, that our daughter was also interested,” Vikas said.
Vikas grew up in Mumbai and moved to Adelaide in 2012 and works with RFI Technology Solutions to develop wireless software for emergency services.
At the Oscars, Vikas’s camera was awarded the Scientific and Engineering Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
