The government’s schemes with too many restrictions to make them truly inclusive by focusing only on the target groups often become utterly counterproductive.
The Alipurduar district health department on Monday inaugurated its ‘vision centre’ at the Shamuktala Primary Health Center situated under Shamuktala police station in the district.

he centre was inaugurated with an inaugural ceremony at the Shamuktala Primary Health Center.

District Deputy Chief Medical Officer -2, Subarna Goswami, Chairman of the ‘Rogi Kalyan Samittee,’ Shamuktala Primary Health Centre, Mridul Goswami along with some district health officials were present in the inaugural programme.
Mr Goswani confirmed that an eye surgeon will be present in the vision center once every week. “We will perform all the eye treatments primarily in the vision center.
In critical cases we will take the patient to the Alipurduar district hospital and will do the needful. We thank the two organizations which helped us to institute the vision centre in a remote area like Shamuktala,” said Mr Goswami.
The Chairman of Shamuktala Primary Health Centre, Mridul Goswami, said “Shamuktala is tea a belt area mostly populated with Adibasi people. The eye treatment centre will serve them a lot. This is very noble initiative of the district health department.”
The Alipurduar district health department has established a similar eye treatment centers at the Latabari Block Primary Health Centre situated under the Kalchini police station in the district and thirty patients on an average visit the centre daily, it is learnt.
According to health officials, a good response from patient there at the Latabari Block Primary Health Centre has inspired the district health department to start another eye treatment centre at the Shamuktala Primary Health Centre.
