Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s cricket career won’t be affected even if he is proven guilty of domestic violence and adultery allegations made by his wife Hasin Jahan.
Talking to PTI, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official said that the Indian cricket board will not judge Mohammed Shami on the allegations of domestic violence and adultery.
Mohammed Shami’s annual contract will be given to him the moment BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) gives him a clean chit over match-fixing allegations.
“Yes, there are specific allegations leveled against him by his wife. But the Kolkata Police is doing its job and it’s completely their domain. In BCCI, we can’t sit back on judgment on personal life and take away his livelihood. Also, the board doesn’t have the powers to do so,” the BCCI official told PTI.
“The BCCI’s handbook has an ‘Ethics Code’ for cricketers with a specific clause regarding financial transactions. The ACU is only investigating Shami’s dealings with Mohammed Bhai and Alishba and the alleged monetary exchange his wife is talking about.”
“If Kumar’s report absolves Shami of any wrongdoing, he will be immediately handed back his Central Contract.”
Even the Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Shukla also repeated BCCI’s words on the matter. Shukla said that they “have nothing to do with anybody’s private life”.
IPL chairman also added that within four to five days, ACU will give their report and if Shami would not be proven guilty, he will continue playing IPL.
Earlier, in the much-talked-about IPL players’ auction, Shami was bought by Delhi Daredevils by utilising Right to Match (RTM) card spending Rs 3 crore.
Notably, following Hasin Jahan’s complaint, an FIR was filed against Mohammed Shami under sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (Causing hurt), 307 (Attempt to murder), 376 (Punishment for rape), 506 (Criminal intimidation), 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence.), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code against Shami and 4 others.
