The controversy around star Indian speedster Mohammed Shami and his wife Hasin Jahan is increasing day by day. The story is taking a new turn each day. On 15 March, Shami even confessed that he had lost all hope of reuniting with his wife.
“I made every effort to save the future of my family. But Hasin said she wants to take this to court. I would have done anything to save my family,” Shami told India Today, adding, “My family members are there in Kolkata for the last seven days, but there has been no response from Hasin’s family. This makes it clear that there is no hope left. All hopes of reuniting with my wife are over.”
On March 7, Mohammed Shami’s wife created a buzz on the internet with accusations of domestic violence, extramarital affairs and even match-fixing against her husband.
Following her allegations, the new contracts announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for Indian players excluded Shami. If the circumstances would have been right then Shami could have found a place in the A Category, which would have earned him Rs 5 crore. Shami was in the B Category in last year’s contract, which is of Rs 3 crore value.
Now, after Shami’s BCCI contract has been withheld, there are high chances that he may not play in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League.
Shami could even lose Delhi Daredevil’s contract for the upcoming season of the cash-rich league.
Shami’s future in the cash-rich Indian league will be the top priority when the Governing Council of Indian Premier League will meet at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Friday.
In the much-talked about IPL players’ auction, Shami was bought by Delhi Daredevils by utilising Right to Match (RTM) card spending Rs 3 crore.
Top BCCI officials including BCCI president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary, treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary, CEO Rahul Johri, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla and Supreme Court appointed CoA members are expected to attend the meeting.
“Look Daredevils management can’t take any unilateral decision in this matter. All players who play in the IPL have a tripartite contract involving the franchise, BCCI and the player. Yes, we are well aware about the sensitive situation and we are having discussions with top BCCI officials. There is a clause about any player bringing disrepute but it is for the lawyers to interpret it,” a senior franchise official had told PTI.
So if the Indian cricketer would be proven guilty of all the allegations made by his wife then he would lose from INR 6-8 Crore in total, on account of the BCCI and IPL contracts.
Earlier after Hasin Jahan’s complain, FIR was filed against Mohammed Shami under sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (Causing hurt), 307 (Attempt to murder), 376 (Punishment for rape), 506 (Criminal intimidation), 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence.), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code against Shami and 4 others.
