Haryana CM orders CBI probe on land acquisition

Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

A day after the Supreme Court set aside of the land acquisition by in Manesar by the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government, the Haryana government on Tuesday recommended Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged irregularities committed during the Congress regime in cases of land acquisition in Rohtak and Sonipat districts.

The injustice done to the farmers will be revealed by the investigation, the Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar said during zero hour of the ongoing budget session of the Assembly.

Coming down heavily on the Opposition, he said these (Congress) leaders had no right to talk about the plight of farmers. They themselves had acquired the lands of farmers just to benefit some builders. “Inkaaisa koi saga nahi, jinko Congress ne thaganahi (There is no one the Congress has not cheated),” he said.

The CM said the state government had already handed over to the CBI investigations into three cases of re-allotment of a plot to Associated Journals Limited (AJL) in Panchkula, Industrial plot allotment by Haryana SahriVikasPradhikaran in Panchkula, and the Manesar land case.

The SC has, in its verdict, set aside the land acquisition process executed by the previous Congress Government in Manesar. It had threatened innocent farmers and extended huge benefits to real estate developers and builders in the name of land acquisition during their rule, he said.

The court has termed such activities as mala fide exercise of powers and a clear case of misuse of power. Apart from this, the apex court has also ordered to investigate the role of middlemen in land acquisition. Now everything would be revealed during the investigation, Khattar added.

He said the apex court had also ordered that decision on the Dhingra Commission, set up to probe grant of land licences to some companies, be announced within two months so that pending issues could be cracked.

Responding to the charge-sheet handed over by the Indian National Lok Dal over the irregularities committed during the Congress regime, the CM said it contained 290 pages and action was being taken on every issue after proper investigation.

“We do not take action against any one in the spirit of revenge or out of political malice. All acts and decisions are taken only after investigation,” he added.
