Alauddin Khilji’s character reminds Jaya Prada of her detractor Azam Khan

When it seemed that ‘Padmaavat’ film related controversies were finally over, Jaya Prada on Saturday said that the character of Alauddin Khilji portrayed by Ranveer Singh reminded her of a political opponent — Azam Khan.

Jaya Prada, while speaking to ANI news agency, said: “When I was watching Padmaavat, Khilji’s character reminded me of Azam Khan ji, how he had harassed me during elections when I was contesting.”

The former MP from Rampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh also said, she was “harassed” by Khan during one of the elections in which she was contesting.

Jaya Prada, a former Samajwadi party leader, along with Amar Singh, was expelled from the party in 2010 for indulging in activities inimical to its political interests and damaging its image.

Jaya Prada has also accused the Azam Khan for maligning her image. Azam Khan supporters had also actively campaigned against their own party member, Jaya Prada, in 2009 elections.

However, Jaya Prada won the 2009 election but by a reduced margin of about 30,000 votes.

Their rivalry again surfaced in 2012 as well, with Jaya Prada vowing to destroy Khan’s “arrogance”.

‘Padmaavat’ collections

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat is unstoppable and creating box office records and has also beaten Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai in worldwide collections.

The film is having an exceptional run and has completed more than a month at the box office. In the process, the film broke many records in foreign countries and now the film has even surpassed Tiger Zinda Hai’s lifetime worldwide collections.

According trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Padmaavat grossed Rs 564-crore till February 26 and Tiger Zinda Hai’s lifetime business was Rs 562-crore.
