Here is why McDonald’s flipped its logo upside down on Women’s Day

The popular fast food chain McDonald’s has turned its iconic golden arches upside down in honour of the International Women’s Day. The iconic ‘M’ of McDonald’s has been turned upside down to form a ‘W’ representing women.

The official Twitter handle of the food chain displayed the flipped sign as their cover as well as the profile picture. The cover picture of the account says, ‘Celebrating International Women’s Day’.

Apart from Twitter, there is also a store where the sign has been actually converted to ‘W’ for the day.

The sign which has been turned upside down is outside the McDonald’s in Lynwood, California. It is owned by Patricia Williams for three decades.

Williams’ location was selected to make the change because she encouraged her two daughters, Kerri Harper-Howie and Nicole Enearu, “to work with her. Patricia, Kerri and Nicole represent the hardworking and dedicated women we (Mcdonald’s) have in our system.”

“In celebration of women everywhere, and for the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women’s Day on March 8 in honour of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere and especially in our restaurants,” said McDonald’s Global Chief Diversity Officer Wendy Lewis in a statement to the press.
