Ruckus over Anganwadis in Haryana House

The Budget Session of Haryana Legislative Assembly commenced on Monday with ruckus over Anganwadi workers who are agitating in the state for regularisation of service.

Immediately after the Governor’s Address and the obituary references, Leader of Opposition and senior Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Singh Chautala raised the issue pertaining to Anganwadi workers reached the state capital Chandigarh to press their demands.

Chautala said that the ruling BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) has made a promise to regularise the Anganwadi workers but after did not do so. Apart from the INLD, the issues was also raised by the Congress Legislative party (CLP) leader KiranChoudhary taking on the state government for not paying attention to the women (Anganwadi workers) protesting for their rights.
This was supported by the Opposition Benches and this resulted into ruckus for many minutes in the House.

However, the Assembly Speaker KanwarpalGurjar refused to allow the Opposition to continue with the said issue saying that the Opposition MLAs would be given chance to raise their issues in coming days but not on the opening day of the Session.

More than 10,000 Anganwadi workers reached Chandigarh on Monday to Gherao the Haryana Assembly, however, they were restricted to Sector 25 ground in Chandigarh where leaders from the Opposition parties, Abhay Singh Chautala and Kiran Choudhary visited to address the gathering.

According to the agitating Anganwadi workers, the increase in wages as announced by the government was insufficient and they should be paid wages at least equivalent to a Class IV employee who get over Rs 16,000 salary per month in Haryana.

According to them, there are about 50,000 Anganwadi workers and helpers in the state.

Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Ashok Tanwar leading his “Cycle Yatra” to gherao the state Assembly was also detained along with his supporters at Chandigarh-Panchkula border on Monday. Tanwar was protesting against the alleged failure of ManoharLalKhattar-led BJP government in Haryana.

The Budget Session proposed for 10 days, began on Monday. According to the schedule, the Budget Estimates for the year 2018-19 would be presented on 9 March.
