The Dakhineswar Ramkrishna Sangha Adyapith has taken initiatives to build Alipurduar district’s first old-age home. The secretary-cum-trustee of the Sangha, Brahmmachari Murali Vai, laid the foundation stone for the old-age home at the East Netajee Road area near Alipurdaur town on Thursday.
The home will be built on 3 Bighas of land, while a big temple of the Sangha will also be built there, it is learnt. The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 32 lakh, Sangha sources said. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced Alipurduar as a new district on 25 June in 2014 in a government programme held at the Alipurduar Parade ground.
The Sangha secretary, Brahmmachari Vai, was seated next to the CM on the stage when she announced the district back then. The Brahmmachari had promised to take initiatives for the development of the town that day. “This initiative to build an oldage home has been taken as part of that pledge,” Sangha sources said.
“I was on the stage the day Alipurduar district was announced by the chief minister. She had appealed to us to take initiatives for the development of this new district,” Brahmmachari Vai said. “We will build an old-age home here. A big temple will also be made here under the same project,” he added.
Alipurduar people, meanwhile, expressed happiness at the initiative taken by the Sangha. “This is the first old-age home to be built in the district. We appeal to the people of Alipurduar district to help us in the project,” said the founder member of the Alipurduar wing of the Dakhineswar Ramkrishna Sangha Adyapith, Krishnendu Bhowmik.
It is learnt that the Alipurduar wing of the Dakhineswar Ramkrishna Sangha Adyapith started its full-fledged activity in the year 2006. The wing has gained popularity through many kinds of activities that it has undertaken to help people in distress in the district.
