Nation remembers Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on 121st birth anniversary

Leaders across party lines and sports personalities in India on Tuesday paid tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 121st birth anniversary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter saying, “The valour of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose makes every Indian proud. We bow to this great personality on his Jayanti”.

PM Modi also shared a montage wherein he credited Netaji for motivating the youth and women of the nation to aggressively take part in India’s freedom struggle.

President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, on Tuesday paid floral tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 121st birth anniversary at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Kovind in a tweet said, “On his birthday, I offer my tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He remains one of our most beloved national heroes and an icon of India’s freedom struggle #PresidentKovind”.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday paid tributes to Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 121st birth anniversary.

Banerjee took to twitter saying, “Remembering Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary. Jai Hind”.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also paid tributes to Netaji a “national icon and charismatic leader, who gave ‘ Jai Hind’ slogan”.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh also remembered Netaji on his 121st birth anniversary, he said that Bose’s contribution to India’s freedom will never be forgotten.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter saying, Bose, was a patriot who inspires each of us even today.

Retired Indian cricketer and commentator Virender Sehwag on Twitter paid tributes to Netaji “one of the greatest son’s of Bharat ,a hero of Indian Independence Struggle”.

Cricketer Harbhajan Singh also  paid “tribute to one of the most dynamic freedom fighters of India”.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also remembered Netaji’s  “undying love for the motherland & courage and sacrifice for country’s freedom continues to guide us in Nation-building”.

Subhas Chandra Bose, who was also referred as Netaji, was born 23 January 1897 in Bengal constituency (now Odisha state) in India. He was a Indian Independence movement activist and a member of Indian National Congress Party. He became the party president in 1938.

Netaji left India after he had a falling-out with Mahatma Gandhi and later approached Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan to assist in making India an independent country.

In 1942, Bose formed the Indian National Army with help from Japan to fight the British Raj in India.

However, Netaji died from third-degree burns on 18 August 1945 after his overloaded Japanese plane crashed in Japanese-ruled Formosa (now Taiwan). His death has been mired in controversy, as the circumstances of his death were not accepted by his supporters.
