Europa League: Tottenham’s unbeaten run ends in thrilling 2-3 loss to Galatasaray
Tottenham Hotspur’s flawless start in the Europa League came to an end on Thursday, as they fell 3-2 to a resilient Galatasaray side.
Fernando Llorente’s goal against his former club helped Tottenham Hotspur beat Swansea City 2-0 in an English Premier League match at a rain-drenched Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night. The win took Tottenham above Arsenal into fifth place and sit four points behind fourth placed Liverpool with a game in hand.
Speaking after the match, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino said that the conditions were difficult and for the players, horrible. “We played well and deserved the victory overall. The conditions weren’t the best to play football but we tried to play our football and the effort was fantastic. Now we need to recover quickly and be ready to play against West Ham (on Thursday night),” Pochettino was quoted by www.tottenhamhotspur.com.
“It was a big night for Fernando and I’m so happy for him to contribute and help the team win the three points. That’s always so important for the strikers. I’m so pleased for Victor (Mugubi Wanyama) as well. He played well. He’s had a lot of months out and I’m happy to see him back again,” the manager said, according to the official website of Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, Fernando Llorente said that he was very happy to score his first goal in the Premier League for Tottenham and help the team. “It was a difficult game in difficult conditions but the important thing was we were focused and aggressive. We wanted to play and move the ball quickly. We controlled the game and played really well, especially in the first half. There was no pressure on me (coming in for Harry Kane) – for me, it was an amazing opportunity.”
Wanyama said that it had been a very tough time for him. “I’m strong and I’ve fought my way back. My team-mates have helped me come through it. I feel better and it’s good to be back. Now I’m focusing on staying injury free and trying to help the team.”
