Padmavati  row: Hindu outfit leader warns cinema owners of dire consequences

Amid escalating controversy over the movie ‘Padmavati’, a Hindu outfit leader Deva Thakur on Tuesday threatened to set the theatres on fire if the controversial film is released in Haryana.

While interacting with the mediapersons in Kaithal, the All Indian Hindu Mahasabha leader Sadhvi Deva Thakur said, “In this film, facts pertaining to Queen Padmavati have been distorted. Thus, we issue a stern warning to all the cinema hall owners that if they try to screen the film, their theatres would be destroyed. We also advised these people to not to take our warning in a light manner.”

We will not let this film to be screened at any cost, she added. Thakur had hit the controversy when she was booked by Karnal police for killing a person in celebratory firing during a marriage. A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suraj Pal Singh Amu is already in doc over announcing Rs 10 Crore bounty on film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actress Deepika Padukone.

For his controversial statement Amu was issued a show cause notice by the party. Afterwards he had to resign from the post of Chief Media Coordinator of the party in Haryana. He was also booked by the Gurugram police his derogatory statement against the film maker and the actress.

Notably, Haryana minister Vipul Goel had written a letter to the Union Information and Broadcasting minister Smriti Irani requesting her to ensure required amendments in the film before its release as it has been alleged that the historical facts have been distorted in the movie. While another Haryana minister Anil Vij has already announced that they would not let the film to be released in Haryana.

Vij has said that the maker of the movie, Bhansali has not only dented the image and honour of Rani Padmawati in his movie but also violated the Indian law against the Satipratha.

Featuring Deepika Padukone as Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji, the film was set for release on December 1.

However, before the release, the movie attracted a lot of controversy over the allegations pertaining to distorting of historical facts.
