Endangered wild cat Lynx was spotted for the first time in Gangotri National Park (GNP) in Uttarakhand. The video of the wild cat, captured through camera trap, moving in the park located in district Uttarkashi has thrilled the park management.

About one hundred camera traps were fixed at different locations of the park. The GNP installed the cameras for monitoring the wildlife animals. This season photo/video of snow leopard and other animals were captured in the camera but the video of rare Lynx was the biggest catch of the season.

Found in central and northern Europe, Pakistan, Iran, China, India and few other countries, not many have seen the endangered cat in Uttarakhand.

GNP’s deputy director Sarvan Kumar said, “Last year photograph of Argali Ovis Ammon (mountain sheep) was captured in the park and this time the rare Lynx has been sighted. This is for the first time we got camera trap photograph of a Lynx.”

The unusual cat was spotted in Nelong area.  The camera trap captured the movement of the wild cat during night time. That’s why only the black and white photograph of the cat species is available. Scientific evidence of presence of the endangered cat, that moves swiftly on snow and climbs tree comfortably, is a thing to cheer about by the forest department.
