A day after former Trinamul Congress leader Mukul Roy, now a BJP leader, approached the Delhi High Court over alleged phone tapping by the West Bengal government headed by Mamata Banerjee, his party came out in support of his move.
Demanding punishment for those responsible for the alleged phone tapping of Roy, BJP leader R P Singh said the Trinamul Congress was wont to take such action.
“Whatever Mukul Roy has said is nothing new as this has been happening continuously in Mamata Banerjee’s regime in West Bengal. Mukul Roy has rightly approached the High Court. Now, the court should take cognizance of it and whosoever is responsible should be dealt with as per the law of the land,” Singh said here on Saturday.
Another BJP leader Zafar Islam likened Mamata to a ‘dictator’ and accused her of indulging in divisive politics.
“Everyone knows how Mamata Banerjee functions. She is like a dictator. Her policy of appeasement to divide the society is something that did not appeal to Mukul Roy and led to him leaving the party. Now, he is taking a stand which is contradictory to what Mamata Banerjee is following,” Islam alleged.
Earlier, BJP leader and Union Minister Babul Supriyo too had alleged that mobile phones of a few political leaders were being tapped in West Bengal.
The swearing-in ceremony of the BJP-dominated Mahayuti government is most likely to take place in Mumbai by Wednesday, November 27 or even earlier, it is learnt.
Meanwhile, the ruling NDA coalition, buoyed by their recent victory in all four seats during the Assembly bye-elections, is enthusiastic about defending their position.
Trinamul Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee will preside over the meeting of the national working committee of the party tomorrow. The meeting will be held at her Kalighat residence.
