Amid growing attacks by the opposition, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday claimed that it would not only sweep the Uttar Pradesh urban body polls but also romp home comfortably in the Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assembly polls.
State BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey accused opposition parties of pursuing a negative agenda said they were rattled by the development work of BJP governments and were hence resorting to falsehoods against the party. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a big war against graft and black money and people of the country are solidly backing him,” the BJP leader said.

Brushing aside speculation of the Modi wave being on the wane, specially after the loss of the BJP in the Chitrakoot Assembly by-poll in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, Pandey said the seat was a “traditional stronghold” of the Congress and nothing should be read beyond it.
“Major wins for the BJP in the UP Assembly elections earlier this year and victories in local body polls in Maharashtra, Odisha, Gujarat have proved the popularity of the BJP beyond doubt,” the BJP leader said.
The BJP is focusing on development and the opposition parties like Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) have a negative agenda, which the people are seeing through and will give a befitting reply to in the forthcoming polls, Pandey added.
