Drugs valued at Rs 6 cr seized in Assam, two held

A joint team of Sashashtra Seema Bal (SSB) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Monday seized 10 packets of drugs worth about Rs one crore from three smugglers in Bihar’s Kishanganj district.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of SSB and DRI conducted a raid and seized the 10 packets of Methaqualone, a sedative equivalent to cocaine – each weighing 100 gm from Khagra overbridge area, SSB 12th battalion Deputy Commandant Kumar Sundaram said.
The team arrested the smugglers the moment they alighted from a bus with the drugs near Potato market on NH 31 and were later handed over to Kishanganj police.

The value of the seized drug is estimated to be around Rs one crore in the international market, he said.
The smugglers have been identified as residents of Pakur district of Jharkhand, the deputy commandant said adding that they had come to deliver the drugs from West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
DRI of Purnea, Vinod Mandal said that Methaqualone is equivalent to cocaine which are used in parties.
