NTPC tragedy: Ten patients airlifted to Safdarjung hospital

Ten patients, who were injured in Rae Bareli’s National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant explosion, have been shifted to Safdarjung hospital on Friday in the Capital.

According to a senior official of the hospital, out of ten patients eight have severe injuries. “One of them has suffered 90 per cent burn, while three have got 80 per cent burn injuries,” the official said, adding that four patients have suffered injury ranging between 40 to 60 per cent. The two other patients have suffered burn injury between 25 to 30 per cent. “We are also expecting that eight more patients will arrive here till late night,” the official added.

All these patients were air-lifted to the hospital.

The official said, nine patients were shifted here in early morning, while one patient was shifted at around 4 p.m. The NTPC officials have also been camping at the hospital since morning.

A relative of a patient (Santosh) said: “Presently, I don’t know about his condition. Earlier, Santosh was admitted in Lucknow but he was shifted to Safdarjung hospital as he received 90 per cent burn injuries.”
These patients have facial burn with inhalation injury (problem in breathing). One of the patients, with 80 per cent injury, has been put on ventilator, the official said, adding that the relatives of the patients have not been allowed to visit them in ICU as they may have risk of getting infection.
According to hospital’s spokesperson Poonam Pandey, the administration has also set up a separate ‘May I Help You’ counter to inform about the condition of patient to their relative.
