Sergio Aguero on Wednesday made history after scoring a landmark 178th goal for Manchester City at the San Paolo Stadium as the Citizens beat Napoli 4-2 in a thrilling UEFA Champions League game and the striker was brimming with delight after his stupendous achievement.

“I am very happy for this moment,” Aguero was quoted as saying by the Manchester City website.

Lorenzo Insigne gave Napoli the lead early on but City responded via centre-back Nicolas Otamendi to level proceedings before the Argentine’s defensive partner—John Stones— would head the visitors back into the lead. Napoli would equalise via a second-half penalty and the stage was set for Aguero to score a landmark goal, which turned out to the the winner as well before Raheem Sterling added gloss to the scoreline with a strike in injury-time.

Aguero, understandably ecstatic after overtaking Erik Brooks at the top of the club’s all-time scoring charts, stated:  “I am happy because the team helped support me with the City fans and the staff.Thank you very much for everyone. Now, I am enjoying this moment.I am very happy. This moment is once in a lifetime”.

The 29-year-old then added he would be giving his match jersey to his son, who had asked him for it if he scored against Napoli.

“This (shirt) is for my son. He text me to say: if I score, to bring the shirt to him,” Aguero revealed.

With four wins from four, City have emerged as one of the contenders for the continental crown and while Aguero was proud of his team’s performance away from home, he was quick to point out that they haven’t won anything yet.

“Napoli is a good team,” he reflected, as he added.”Playing away in the Champions League is difficult.

“We must keep going in the same way, every game, playing the same way.

“(Tonight) it shows nothing. It is a long season,”added the Argentine hitman.

City now turn their attentions towards the Premier League, when they table-toppers host Arsenal in a crunch clash on Sunday.

Should they beat the Gunners at the Etihad and second-placed Manchester United drop points at Chelsea later in the day, they will be able to extend their already-considerable lead at the top of the standings.

Going into the final international break of the year, there is plenty of cause for optimism in the Blue half of Manchester, for not only have they dominated the English top-flight but Europe’s premier continental competition as well.
