Modi govt’s GST has put burden on poor: Gohil
Senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil on Thursday said the Narendra Modi-led government’s complicated Goods and Services Tax (GST) has put an unbearable burden on the poor and common people.
A day after India jumped 30 places in the World Bank’s global list on “ease of doing business”, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed Union Minister Arun Jaitley and said that demonetisation and GST had ruined small businesses in the country.
“Jaitley ji sits in his office and believes a foreign company talking about ease of doing business in India. He should go talk to small shop owners and ask them what is the “ease of doing business?” said the Gandhi scion.

Speaking at a public rally in Jambusar, Gujarat on day one of his three-day visit to the poll bound state, Rahul Gandhi said ill-conceived schemes like demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) have hurth small businesses as well as the economy.

“The ease of doing business has been ruined by demonetisation and GST,” he said.
There is an undercurrent of anger in Gujarat and the BJP is going to get a major shock this election.
India for the first time has moved into the top 100 in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business global rankings from its 130th position last year, riding on sustained government reforms which include making tax paying easier, according to the banks latest report released here on Tuesday.
The World Bank Group’s latest report ‘Doing Business 2018: Reforming to Create Jobs’ recognises India as one of the top 10 improvers in this year’s assessment, though the report does not take into account the big bang reform of Goods and Services Tax (GST) which rolled out on July 1.
