Karnataka Congress MLA JN Ganesh apologises for brawl that landed party MLA in hospital

Days after two groups of Nigerians were involved in a violent clash at Sawan Neelu Angel Nursing Hospital in Saket on Saturday; a 38-year-old Nigerian national Bello Leanord was arrested from a rented apartment near Sawan Park in Ashok Vihar.
He was accused of causing riot-like situation, informed a senior officer.
He added: “The cause of trouble is not known yet as no other person has been arrested. We are interrogating more African nationals and investigation is going on to identify more involved in the clash. So far more than ten places have been raided and we have interrogated more than twenty Africans. But officially one accused who belongs to Nigeria has been arrested.”
A senior officer told The Statesman, “Primary investigation indicates that the alleged Nigerian men were from Noida. It was found that the two groups had gone to a restaurant near Mehrauli church and got involved in a fight during which one of them had smashed a beer bottle on a woman’s head. A brawl ensued after that. After the woman was taken to hospital, a youth from rival group too reached there and another fight broke out.”
The officer said police recovered CCTV footage from the hospital in which the attackers wielding sticks and swords were seen smashing doors and glasses. “Efforts are being made to identify them; a few people from Chhatarpur have been detained for questioning,” he added.
It may be recalled a clash between two groups of Nigerian nationals took place on Saturday in a hospital. The scale of violence reportedly forced the hospital staff had to hide themselves in rooms for more than half an hour. CCTV captured the entire mayhem with a footage showing an unruly goup smashing a door to reach the reception.
“The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Saturday when a PCR call was received by the hospital’s receptionist about a violent fight erupting between two Nigerian groups,” said additional deputy commissioner of police, South Delhi, Chinmoy Biswal.
A hospital staffer told The Statesman, “Three Nigerians came to hospital and inquired about the hospital expenses. They said the hospital is very expensive and they will visit another one. They were accompanied by a dozen Nigerian men who were standing outside. After a while, another severely injured Nigerian arrived in an auto but others who were present there started rushing towards him.”
The staffer added, “The injured Nigerian ran towards the hospital to escape but midway he was caught by others and they all started beating him up. They then took out swords and sticks and started attacking each other. The frightened hospital staff locked themselves in rooms.”
The security guard of the hospital tried to stop them, but he too was beaten up.
“When one of staffers at the reception told them to take their fight outside, the men started breaking the paintings and a glass table at the reception. The receptionist was also beaten up,” said Dr Ashok Kumar, in-charge of the nursing home.
A case under sections of rioting, arson and assault based on the statement of an employee of the hospital was registered at Saket police station.
