Spectacular win of AAP in by-polls a forceful mandate to our pro-people policies: Punjab CM
The Chief Minister said that the victory of AAP on three seats has filled them with more humility and dedication to serve the state and its people.
With farmers in Punjab resorting to protests over farm loan waiver and implementation of Swaminathan Commission report, Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Punjab president, Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday accused both the State and Centre governments of failing to keep the pre-poll promises made to the farmers.
In a statement, the member of Parliament from Sangrur, Mann, said the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government in Punjab and Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre a were two sides of the same coin.Mann said during the run up to the coming Gurdaspur parliamentary by-poll, the AAP would reach out to each and every household in the constituency to expose the double speak of both BJP and the Congress who deceived the poor farming community only to get their votes and later left them high and dry.
Mann said Modi government has completed nearly three and a half year at the Centre but it failed to implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan commission report which the BJP promised so vociferously in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

“Rather Modi government not only has taken a complete U-turn on the implementation of the Swaminathan commission report but also ignored the large number of suicides being committed by the farming community all across India as they fail to get reasonable rates for their agriculture produce,” he said. Mann said Modi government has given an affidavit in the Supreme Court that the Centre government would not implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan report.
He said similarly before coming to power in Punjab, Amarinder’s party went to each household in Punjab and gave written assurances to the farmers and labour farm that their outstanding agricultural loans would be waived off once the Congress came to power including those of public sector banks, cooperative banks or with the commission agents.”However immediately after taking oath as Chief Minister Captain Amarinder completely forgot and ignored the promise he made to the Punjab farmers. As a result Punjab farmers and farm labour continue to commit suicides almost every day,” he said.
If this was insufficient, farmers are being humiliated by the various financial institutions including the public sector banks by publicly displaying the pictures of farm loan defaulters, Mann said.
