To make the state tobacco-free, the Haryana government on Thursday has decided to formulate the State Level Co-ordinating Committee (SLCC), which would be the nodal committee for implementation, monitoring and evaluation of tobacco control activities.
An official spokesperson said that Health Minister Anil Vij has approved the formulation of the committee and the similar committees would also be formulated at district level to look after tobacco control activities in all districts.
He said that these committees would be responsible for carrying out key activities such as training of health and social workers, non-government organisations (NGOs), school teachers and enforcement officers.
Committees would also organise Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities, school programmes to protect youth from of tobacco, monitor tobacco control laws, co-ordinate with Panchayati Raj Institutions for village-level activities and ensure setting up along with strengthening of cessation facilities including provision of pharmacological treatment facilities at the district level, he added.
The spokesperson further stated that the state government was taking firm steps to roll out tobacco control programme and activities throughout Haryana.
