"PVR Pictures' philosophy has been a strong balance of high-quality content and economics and we are proud to say that this one is right up there for us on that list," he added.
The project has been adapted from the Jonathan Ames novel.
In the film, Phoenix plays a war veteran who devotes himself to saving women being exploited by sex traffickers. Things go very wrong when he tries to save a girl from a brothel in New York. The film won accolades at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
