Election Farce
Four years after seizing power in a coup, Myanmar’s military rulers continue their desperate yet failing bid to tighten their grip, this time by extending emergency rule under the pretext of preparing for elections.
Debris of a Myanmar military plane carrying as many as 116 people that went missingon Wednesday have been found in the Andaman sea, according to reports. The plane had lost contact with the air traffic controllers when it was flying between the southern city of Myeik and Yangon.
“Now they have found pieces of the damaged plane in the sea 136 miles (218 km) away from Dawei city,” Naing Lin Zaw, a tourism official in Myeik, was quoted by a news agency. The navy was still searching the sea.
