While spring-summer fashion week is being held in many parts of the world, it's passion week for Christians across the globe. The week begins from Palm Sunday, the day Jesus Christ made a triumphant entry into Jerusalem, sitting on a lowly colt, as people shouted 'Hosannah to the King of Kings'. The act is symbolic of the greatness of humbleness and humility that man should possess.

Many in the world, who had not heard the story before, saw it all in the 2004 epic film The Passion of the Christ, written and directed by Mel Gibson. The film, based on the holy book, tells the story of how Jesus Christ, betrayed by one of his close disciples, Judas Iscariot, suffered a torturous death on the cross.

Reflecting on Christ's suffering and his love and sacrifice for the people even in times of suffering, Christians observe the Passion Week, the week leading to Easter Sunday. Several significant events, according to The Bible, took place during the Passion Week before Christ's was finally nailed to the cross on Good Friday and rose to life again on Easter Sunday. Jesus cursed a fig tree to die: Jesus travelled to Jerusalem and spent a night in Bethany, at the foothills of Mount of Olives. He cursed a fig tree and the tree withered the next day.

Jesus cleans a temple: Jesus showed the act of cleaning the house of God, the place of worship, which is symbolic of the cleansing of the body, mind and heart of a believer.

Jesus warns of false belief: He pronounced seven condemnations for those preaching false religion and fake belief which are distasteful to God.

The Lord Supper: The day Christ shared his last meal with his disciples ahead of his crucifixion. He told his disciples what would happen – that he would be betrayed by one of them and arrested and taken to be killed by the Romans. During the supper, he also showed a principle of Christian living – the greatest are those who serve others, not those who expect to be served. Today, Christians observe it as Holy Communion day.

A woman shows passionate service to Christ: A woman by the name Mary bought expensive perfumed oil with her only saving and poured it on Jesus' feet. She then wiped his feet with her hair.

Jesus was betrayed and sold: Disciple Judas Iscariot conspired with the Sanhedrin to betray Jesus and sold him to the Roman soldiers for 30 pieces of silver.

Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane: After the last supper with his disciple, Jesus went up to the Garden of Gethsemane and prayed. Here, he was arrested and taken to trials before the chief priests, Pontius Pilate and Herod.

Jesus endured six trials: Jesus faced three trials by Jewish leaders and three by the Romans. He was mocked, beaten and whipped. They made him wear a purple robe and a crown of thorns before he was finally crucified.

All these historic biblical events that happened in the last week of Jesus' life on earth have great significance and are spiritually symbolic of Jesus' teachings and great principles of life. There are many lessons to learn from it. Passion endures sufferings. Through suffering you find strength. Through forgiveness, you find grace and life, and many more.
