The Ministry of Human Resource Development has asked the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to overhaul its accreditation process. The move is an attempt to curb corrupt practices in the assessment process of the accreditation agency.
The ministry has also asked NAAC to bring more transparency in its grading system. According to the new assessment, the institutions will not be informed in advanced about the peer team from NAAC which will be visiting them for assessment.
One of the biggest changes is that the peer team assessment will be given only 20 per cent weightage instead of the 100 per cent that exist currently. 80 per cent of the weightage will be registered through the Information Communication and Technology.
The ministry suggested the above mentioned changes after many institutions filed complaints against the per team assessors.
