After UP, other states such as Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have also initiated action against illegal meat shops and slaughterhouses.
The Gujarat Assembly on March 31 had amended and passed cow protection bill to make the law stringent.
Cow protection organisations in Karnataka have also called for similar action against illegal slaughterhouses as well as illegal transportation of cattle in the state.
The ban on illegal slaughterhouses was one of the main agendas of the BJP manifesto in the recently concluded elections.
A day after Yogi Adityanath took charge as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, two slaughterhouses were sealed by the Nagar Nigam authorities in Allahabad.
