Tamil Nadu's former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and his followers began a one-day fast on Wednesday demanding a CBI probe into the death of Jayalalithaa.

The hunger strike that began at 9am is being carried out in all the district headquarters across the state.

The All India Anaa Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MPs and legislators belonging to the Panneerselvam group have also joined the protest and have extended their support.

The people from Panneerselvam’s faction have raised doubts about the circumstances surrounding Jayalalithaa’s death. As a caretaker, Panneerselvam had announced a judicial inquiry into the death of Jayalalithaa.

Earlier on March 6, the Tamil Nadu government released Jayalalithaa’s health report. The Palaniswami government released a 19-page health report card. The reports claimed that the AIIMS doctors have examined Jayalalitha five times.

There were several suspicions over the death of one of the most loved leaders of the state. Her silent treatment and lack of updates about her health had already raised a lot of eyebrows.

Jayalalithaa passed away on December 5 last year after suffering a cardiac arrest. Prior to her death, she was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai for around 75 days.
