US President Donald, who met a group of survivors, parents and family members of victims of Florida school mass shooting, has pledged to find a long-term solution to increasing gun violence in America and to prevent a repeat of last week’s horror.
“We want to learn everything we can learn. Starting about two minutes after this meeting, we’re going to work. This is a long-term situation that we have to solve. We’ll solve it together,” Trump told the people present at the gathering.
As many as 17 people comprising students and educators were killed on February 14 in the deadly shooting incident in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. It was the second-deadliest shooting at a US public school and the incident yet again sparked debate over gun rights in the US.
Almost after a week of the tragedy, President Trump held an emotional hour-long meeting with the survivors. Despite Trump’s pledge to find long-term solution, the US President is facing Twitter wrath for all the wrong reasons.
First, Trump’s suggestion of arming the teachers irked people and then his ‘cue card’ which said ‘I hear you’ drew massive criticism.
During the meet, Trump was photographed with a tip card containing some notes. One of the points on the card read ‘I hear you’. It was difficult for people on Twitter to believe that the President needed a reminder about sympathising with survivors and victims’ families.
Other than the ‘I hear you’ point, two questions were also visible in the photograph. These questions wee – ‘What would you most want me to know about your experience?’ and ‘What can we do to help you feel safe?’
Here are some of the Twitter reactions:
Here r Trumps “talking points” as he met w students & teachers at the WH. He had 2 remind himself to say “I hear you”. I would’ve thought that was a sentiment that should come naturally. His ego is so massive that the # “45”is embroidered on his shirt cuffs. Total sad loser pic.twitter.com/wTFX3opvuh

Which is worse:
1. Item number 5 (“I hear you”)
2. The 45 embroidered on his shirt cuff. https://t.co/8zFbjHxfaU— Franklin Leonard (@franklinleonard) February 21, 2018
The fact that Trump couldn’t meet with these kids without notes that say “I hear you” is an epic failure of empathy and leadership. And those the WH, including Kelly, are fine to let this sham continue.

Morally repugnant: “I hear you”
Gross in a different way: Uh, Trump got “45” monograms on his cuffs? pic.twitter.com/0yYDQ3h863— Jay Willis (@jaywillis) February 21, 2018
Oh gawd: Trump had a 3 point cheat sheet for gun control meeting – 3rd point: “I hear you.”
Reminder: have empathy. https://t.co/G9xSvNBdZd

Trumps notes: what can I do to make you feel safer? I hear you.
Students: gun control – we’re afraid we’re going to die during a shooting at school.
Trump: got it (turns to camera) everyone gets a gun. Kids get guns. Teachers get guns. Class pets get guns. Guns guns guns.

“I hear you?” It’s like he asked someone what to say to sound sympathetic and he wrote it down so he wouldn’t forget

Trump held a list of talking points in his hand during his gathering with students today. The last talking point said (per NBC): “I hear you.” Good god, he needed a reminder to be empathetic.
