Thousands of Indian residents and others participated in a yoga session to mark the fifth International Day of Yoga in Abu Dhabi.
The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi hosted the events at the Umm Al Emarat Park from 7 pm onwards on Thursday evening, according to the Gulf News
UAE Minister of tolerance Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan was the chief guest at the event.
Charge d’Affaires of the mission, Smita Pant inaugurated the event.
Shaikh Nahyan also congratulated India on the occasion and said: “Yoga encourages an attitude that looks towards common humanity as an extension of the ancient principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.”
Around 4,000 yoga enthusiasts of various nationalities took part in the event. Ten yoga schools in Abu Dhabi performed different yoga demonstrations.
The embassy will also hold another yoga event on June 28 at Jahili Public Park Al Ain.
The International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually since its inception by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015. Events are held across the world to mark the day.
