Warm and friendly relations between India and Malaysia were in focus at the National Day reception organised by the Malaysian High Commission in New Delhi on 11 September.
Members of Delhi’s diplomatic community, government officials, heads of Southeast Asian missions, representatives of Malaysian companies operating in India and business people were among those attended the event at the Shangri-La Hotel.
In his welcoming remarks, Datuk Hidayat Abdul Hamid, Malaysian High commissioner to India, spoke about strong relations between India and Malaysia.
The relationship between the two countries has “blossomed into a multifaceted, strategic partnership encompassing many sectors,” he said.
The visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak to India in April 2017 further strengthened the friendship and warm relations, said the High Commissioner, who was dressed in the traditional Malaysian attire.
Indian Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Mansukh L. Mandaviya, was the chief guest.
A cultural troupe from the Malaysian state of Perak presented a music and dance performance at the event, which attracted more than 300 guests.
The food offerings included popular Malaysian dishes prepared by two chefs flown in from Kuala Lumpur.
In conjunction with the 60th National Day of Malaysia and the 60th anniversary of Malaysia-India relations, the Malaysia High Commission is organising several commemorative events in India this month, including a food and culture festival.
An India-Malaysia culture show is also proposed to be organised at the Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra in Noida near Delhi.
