North Korean leader Kim Jong-un supervised the demonstrations of a new type of tactical guided weapon on Thursday as a warning to South Korea to stop importing high-tech weapons and conducting joint military exercises with the United States, according to report on Friday.

Kim personally organised and guided the firing of the “state-of-the-art weaponry system” on Thursday and was “gratified” with the outcome, KCNA reported.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said, “We cannot but develop nonstop super-powerful weapon systems to remove the potential and direct threats to the security of our country that exist in the South”.

He also accused South Koreans of “double-dealing” for saying they support peace but simultaneously importing new weapons and conducting military drills.

North Korea had previously warned that the upcoming US-South Korea joint military exercises could affect the resumption of the talks.

South Korea’s leaders “should not make a mistake of ignoring the warning from Pyongyang”, North Korea said according to KCNA
