Ex-Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif platelets increased from 35,000 to 51,000, showing improvement in his health condition, according to reports on Friday.

However, Sharif’s blood pressure and sugar level was said to be still high, Dawn news reported.

The medical board headed by Lahore’s Services Hospital Principal Mahmood Ayaz also examined Sharif and conducted his tests.

On October 29, a doctor had said that Sharif is “critically unwell”, days after the three-time leader now serving a prison sentence for corruption suffered a minor heart attack.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court granted bail to Sharif, suspending his seven-year sentence in the Al-Azizia corruption reference on medical ground.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Secretary-General Ahsan Iqbal had told Dawn news that the first and foremost effort of the doctors was to stabilise Nawaz Sharif’s condition.

“Once his condition is stabilised the matter of his going abroad will be considered and decided,” Iqbal added.

Nawaz Sharif, who had been shifted from the Kot Lakhpat Jail where he is serving seven-year imprisonment in the Al-Azizia corruption case to the NAB’s Lahore building following his arrest in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case, hospitalised on Monday night after a decline in his platelet count.

In August, two government hospitals had denied a specialised cardiac ambulance facility for emergency medical cover to Nawaz Sharif in the Central Jail.
