Navjot Singh Sidhu has landed in a fresh controversy after pro-Khalistani leader Gopal Singh Chawla posted a photograph of himself on Facebook with the Congress leader.

Sidhu had allegedly met Chawla on the sidelines of the Kartarpur corridor groundbreaking ceremony in Pakistan.

In a Facebook post captioned “with sedu pa g”, Sidhu can be standing beside Chawla.

Eyebrows were raised earlier on Wednesday when Chawla was seen shaking hands with Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Gopal Singh Chawla is a senior leader of Pakistan Sikh Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (PSGPC), and he was invited to all events involving the Sikh community.

Singh is the general secretary of the PSGPC and is known as a pro-Khalistan voice.

Sources said Chawla was instrumental in denying access to Indian High Commission officials to two gurudwaras in Pakistan a few days back. The officials had gone to the gurudwaras to meet Indian pilgrims.

Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had showered praises on Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan while addressing a gathering at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor earlier on Wednesday.

The cricketer-turned-politician said that Imran Khan has been a good friend and delivered on his promise. He added that Khan’s name will be written in “golden words” in history for his decision to open the corridor – something that never happened in 70 years since India and Pakistan gained freedom.

Sidhu called Imran Khan “an angel” for giving a green signal to the long-pending demand of a corridor to the Sikh shrine.

Later, Khan too lauded Sidhu for his efforts to “unite” the two nations.
